Abstract:
Material Control and Accountability (MC&A) plays an important role in the defense-in-depth of a nuclear facility by providing positive assurance of the presence of special nuclear material (SNM); however, many concepts that pertain to MC&A tend to be esoteric and unfamiliar to most people. To help address this issue, the National Nuclear Security Administration Office of Security Operations and Programmatic Planning (NA-71) has partnered with the Texas A&M University INMM Student Chapter, the University of Tennessee INMM Student Chapter, the Department of Energy National Training Center, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory to continue a video series aimed at explaining key topics within MC&A. The Top Things to Know about Special Nuclear Material, the second video in the series, helps communicate salient points about SNM to a broad audience, ranging from the policy makers to protective forces.
