Preparing the Next GenerationNSSPI was the first academic organization in the U.S. to address a growing need for graduate-level technical education focused on nuclear safeguards and nuclear nonproliferation. This problem has long been identified in the nuclear community as one of the critical challenges facing the world today. In response, NSSPI faculty and staff have developed one of the most robust technical nonproliferation and safeguards education programs in the U.S.
Nuclear Security Education and Training
NSSPI combines academic study with hands-on training, research, and direct exposure to nuclear security and safeguards practice.
Texas A&M students can pursue graduate study in nuclear nonproliferation and a Graduate Certificate in Nuclear Security. Academic programs are reinforced by laboratory work, field exercises, internships, national laboratory training, and visits to nuclear facilities in the United States and abroad.
Students also participate in conferences, workshops, technical meetings, and study tours, where they engage with professionals from government, national laboratories, industry, universities, and international organizations.
Education Beyond Texas A&M
NSSPI also provides education and training for students and professionals outside traditional degree programs through:
- workshops and technical training;
- self-paced online courses and professional certificates through the Nuclear Security & Safeguards Education Portal (NSSEP);
- distance education opportunities; and
- domestic and international workshops and capacity-building programs.
These programs connect technical instruction with practical experience in safeguards, security, radiation detection, emergency response, and nonproliferation.
