Abstract:
This work demonstrates the first ever systematic study of the dissolution of NaBiO3 and stability of the bismuthate ion in nitric acid systems, along with its complexation with the uranyl ion and by analogy the other actinyl ions. NaBiO3 is one of only a few chemical oxidants which can oxidize Am(III) to Am(VI) in nitric acid systems, and these results open the door to a mechanistic understanding of this difficult oxidation.
