Abstract:
The Nuclear Security Science and Policy Institute (NSSPI), Texas A&M University (TAMU) has established a Nuclear Safeguards Education Portal (NSEP) designed to meet the growing need for asynchronous safeguards education. A series of introductory modules have already been developed, and presented to the community. Further modules are being prepared and launched to address supplementary introductory material in addition to more complex subject matter. The Safeguards Terminology module has been designed to complement the IAEA Safeguards Glossary as an online resource with an inclusive set of safeguards terms partnered with instructive videos, reference material, discussion forums, and self assessments. The Statistics and Safeguards module provides students who have already completed the introductory modules with a detailed overview of what mathematical techniques and instruments are typically employed in the safeguards field. Finally, the Containment and Surveillance module is being designed to introduce students to the equipment, barriers, and practices used in the safeguarding of nuclear material. These modules will continue to provide the safeguards community with a mechanism for quickly and effectively educating students with a wide array of backgrounds.
