NSSPI faculty members Dr. William Charlton, Dr. Sunil Chirayath, and Dr. Craig Marianno conducted a two and a half day workshop on nuclear security at the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur (IIT-K), which was jointly sponsored by the US State Department’s Partnership for Nuclear Security (PNS) and IIT-K. Participants in this workshop were faculty and students from various universities throughout India that have nuclear science, engineering, or technology programs, including Amity University, Delhi University, Delhi Technological University, IIT-Bombay, Jadhavpur University, and Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University.
The workshop consisted of lectures and tabletop exercises on nuclear security culture, nuclear nonproliferation, nuclear forensics, radiation detection, consequence management, and threat-informed security. A tour of the linear accelerator facility at IIT-K and a screening of the movie Pandora’s Promise were also part of the program.
