
The TEES Nuclear Security Science and Policy Institute (NSSPI) collaborated with Oak Ridge National Laboratory to develop instructional materials for a training course in nuclear security capacity-building in consultation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for professionals of IAEA member States from Asia and the Pacific region. The course was conducted at the State Nuclear Security Training Center in Beijing, China. NSSPI Director and Associate Professor of Nuclear Engineering Dr. Sunil Chirayath traveled to China to serve as an instructor for the course.
The training course focused on various aspects of building capacity for nuclear security, including: education, training, and awareness-raising for nuclear security, workforce management, knowledge management, knowledge networks, and roles and capacities to support the nuclear security regime. Participants attended lectures on these various and completed three table top exercises.
