Abstract:
Radiation detection has always been one of the primary concepts which are covered in a nuclear engineering department1″s curriculum. However, most universities focus on gamma ray and charged particle detection. Neutron detection is often only lectured on in a classroom with no experimental portion to complement the theory (The University of Michigan being the main exception). Texas A&M University has taught neutron detection with both classroom lectures and laboratory experiments for many years, but has only recently expanded its curriculum to include the advanced neutron detection method of neutron multiplicity counting.
