Short Bio:
Robert Zedric graduated in Fall 2022 with a Ph.D. in nuclear engineering under advisors Dr. Sunil Chirayath and Dr. Craig Marianno. As a NSSPI Ph.D. student, Zedric used particle accelerators to study radiation detectors and their resilience to radiation-induced damage. His dissertation work was a continuation of research that he began at the International Atomic Energy Agency in 2015. During a year-long internship there, he found that a certain type of radiation detector can benefit in performance when injected with high energy protons. He then assembled a beam line at the Texas A&M nuclear engineering accelerator laboratory to study this further. Zedric came to Texas A&M in 2012 from the Missouri University of Science and Technology with a Bachelor’s in Nuclear Engineering. He has also spent summers at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratories, and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. He recently completed a one year assignment in Washington, DC as an NNSA Graduate Program (NGFP) Fellow and had studied at Texas A&M under the support of the Nuclear Nonproliferation and International Safeguards (NNIS) Fellowship Program. Upon graduation, he joined Sandia National Laboratories as a staff scientist where he researches the damaging effects of radiation on electronics.
