Short Bio:
Richard Charles Mac Namee joined the Bush School in 2010 as a lecturer in the MPIA program. He currently teaches courses on government intelligence operations, technical collection, terrorism, counterinsurgency, and nuclear security threat assessment and analysis. Mac Namee has been part of a collaborative effort with NSSPI to develop a range of graduate-level classes in the field of nuclear security/nuclear terrorism. His work has been shared with Penn State University and MIT as part of a broader collaborative project under the auspices of the Global Threat Reduction Initiative (GTRI). Mac Namee attended Dulwich College, London, before being admitted into the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst from which he graduated in 1989 and was initially commissioned as a British Army officer into the Scots Guards. During his subsequent years of military service, Mac Namee completed extended operational tours of duty in Germany, Northern Ireland, and the Middle East during the Gulf War (Desert Storm) as well as other unspecified locations. Later in his career, Mac Namee was deployed on extended operations as a Special Forces operator and commander on operations conducted in the interests of national security. Mac Namee’s Special Forces service also included operational tours of duty on assignment to the United Kingdom’s internal counter-intelligence and security agency (MI5). Mac Namee attended The Royal College of Military Science and The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst Staff College (JDSC), where he studied defense studies and military analysis and strategic planning. After retiring from the military in 2005, Mac Namee relocated to the United States and established a consulting firm, mcconnor meade Risk Management LLC, which provided consulting services in the fields of threat assessment and risk and crisis management to a wide range of public and private sector clients. Mac Namee continues to provide counsel to some of the world’s largest oil and gas companies as well as global risk management companies. In 2009-2010, Mac Namee was recalled to military service. He rejoined the Special Forces and was deployed with a Special Operations Task Force to Afghanistan as part of the ‘surge’ operation.’ The Task Force’s operations, the details of which are, and will remain, classified, were conducted in extremely hostile environments and were considered pivotal to the success of the campaign being conducted by US and NATO forces. Mac Namee was awarded the Queen’s Commendation for Valuable Service (QCVS) for his Special Forces service.
