On February 26 through 28, the Center for Nuclear Security Science and Policy Initiatives and the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B) organized a discussion meeting on nuclear security best practices sponsored by the US Department of the Defense’s Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) with technical support from Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The event was hosted by Professor Suneet Singh at IIT-B with organizational support from NSSPI Director and Associate Professor of Nuclear Engineering Dr. Sunil Chirayath.
The workshop brought together subject matter experts from both the US and India to discuss the challenges and best practices for nuclear security in their respective countries. These experts were pulled from the NSSPI, ORNL, IAEA, and the South Texas Nuclear Power plant on the US side, and from various Indian universities and technical institutes, the Indian nuclear industry, the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, the Indian navy, and the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) on the Indian side. The meeting was attended by students and academics from various Indian universities, as well as representatives from the Indian nuclear industry, the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, DAE, and the Observer Research Foundation.
