
The Texas A&M Department of Nuclear Engineering, in conjunction with the Nuclear Security Science and Policy Institute (NSSPI), the Nuclear Power Institute (NPI), the Nuclear Science Center (NSC), and the College of Engineering, hosted two visitors from the National University of Malaysia the week of November 7, 2009. The visitors were Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Noramly bin Muslim, Professor and Chairman of Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB), and Prof. Dr. Shahidan bin Radiman, Chairman of the School of Applied Physics. The official purpose for the visit was to discuss possible joint research and education initiatives in the area of nuclear power, peaceful applications of nuclear energy, nuclear safeguards and security, and other sustainable energy sources. During their visit to Texas A&M, the Malaysian delegation toured the Texas A&M campus, the Bush Presidential Library, the different laboratories in the Nuclear Engineering Department, the Space Engineering Research Center, and the NSC. They also met with the different institutes, departmental representatives, and other key administrators on campus. On November 10, Dr. Noramly bin Muslim gave the departmental seminar on “Malaysia’s Nuclear Renaissance and Energy Security.”
