On October 5, the Center for Nuclear Security Science and Policy Initiatives (NSSPI) hosted a delegation from the Nuclear Security Division of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The division director, Raja Adul Aziz Bin Raja Adnan, along with the division’s section head for Program Development and International Cooperation, Jason E. Tierney and the Nuclear Security Attaché for the U.S. mission to International Organizations in Vienna (UNVIE) Nassima I. Barrows, visited NSSPI to discuss ways that NSSPI—and other entities across the Texas A&M University System–could possibly support the IAEA’s nuclear security mission. They were particularly interested in possible collaborations in the area of nuclear security human capacity development and training.
The delegation met with NSSPI faculty and staff to discuss the center’s capabilities and past training experiences. They also toured the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service’s Disaster City and Emergency Operations Training Center to determine how these facilities could support the IAEA’s nuclear security training endeavors.
