In July, NSSPI graduated its first class of students in the Summer Certificate in Nuclear Security Program. Sponsored by the US State Department’s Partnership for Nuclear Security (PNS), the certificate program is an eight-week intensive course designed to produce nuclear professionals who will lead efforts to reduce the security risks associated with nuclear and radiological materials, while ensuring the peaceful use of nuclear energy is available to all.
Participants earned academic credit by completing three university courses taught by NSSPI faculty. The program also included tours of nuclear and radiological facilities, executive seminars, and security-focused simulations.
The course is intended to raise the awareness of nuclear security as a key requirement for all nuclear and radiological systems and instill a culture of nuclear security in nuclear professionals working in industry, research facilities, government, or academia.
This year’s class included participants from the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority, the National Atomic Energy Commission in Yemen, the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission, the Indonesia Nuclear Energy Agency, and Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University in India.
