NSSPI has released a new version of its Nuclear Safeguards Education Portal (NSEP), an application that provides introductory educational resources for students anywhere in the world with an interest in nuclear safeguards and the security of nuclear materials. The new version of the portal allows students to test their knowledge through online assessments and includes support for iPhones and iPads. Instructors using NSEP as part of a course will also be able to have students email them results of their online assessments.
NSEP was originally launched in the spring of 2009 as an effort to provide introductory information to summer interns at the national laboratories who were interested in safeguards, but useage of this resource has expanded tremendously since its inception. In only the first year of availability, approximately 1100 unique users accessed NSEP from around the world. This level of outreach would have been impossible in a more traditional, classroom-based approach. NSSPI is committed to the continued availability of this valuable resource and the development of additional modules to serve the safeguards community.
