WHO & WHAT:
This professional workshop, coordinated by the Center for Nuclear Security Science and Policy Initiatives (NSSPI) at Texas A&M University, offers a comprehensive introduction to nuclear safeguards. Participants will gain foundational knowledge in key areas, including the nuclear fuel cycle, safeguards treaties and relevant legal frameworks, approaches to nuclear safeguards, practical applications at nuclear facilities, and nuclear material control and accounting methods.
The workshop is structured as a hybrid learning experience. Participants will first complete online coursework, accessible beginning May 15, 2025, after receiving a registration confirmation and invitation email from Texas A&M University. This preparatory online content ensures participants arrive equipped for the interactive in-person component, scheduled as a half-day panel session in conjunction with the 2025 INMM Annual Meeting in August in Washington, D.C.
Flexible registration options are available. Attendees may enroll as part of a full or daily registration for the INMM Annual Meeting, or opt exclusively for the workshop or the online certificate course. Upon successful completion of the online modules, participants will receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and a professional certificate issued by the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES), validating their specialized training in nuclear safeguards.
Part 1: ONLINE MODULES
Participants will complete the following online modules offered by the Center for Nuclear Security Science and Policy Initiatives (NSSPI) at Texas A&M University:
- Introduction to Nuclear Security and Safeguards
- The Nuclear Fuel Cycle
- Introductory Statistics
- Nuclear Material Accountancy
- Containment and Surveillance
- Spent Nuclear Fuel Safeguards
- Uranium Enrichment Safeguards
- Applied Statistics for Safeguards
Part 2: ONSITE SESSION
The face-to-face session will consist of speakers giving additional lectures on a number of topics related to international safeguards, with time allotted for a panel discussion and for addressing questions posed by the participants. The speakers are international safeguards experts and professionals with current or recent experience in policy, technical implementation, and/or inspections.
The in person portion will be moderated by NSSPI Director Dr. Mansung Yim, and tentative speakers for the in-person event will be:

CREDIT:
Upon completion of both the online and face-to-face portions of the workshop, participants will be awarded 3 continuing education units from Texas A&M University, along with a professional certificate issued by the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station.
