Short Bio:
Hamza El-Asaad was a 2022-2023 Stanton Nuclear Security Fellow at NSSPI. His current research interests are nuclear security and policy with a focus on the environmental dynamics of radioactive materials in the environment from major nuclear events and how public policies are impacted as a result. Prior to joining NSSPI, Hamza was a permanent researcher and engineer at the Japan Atomic Energy Agency, from 2019 to 2022.
Dr. El-Asaad attended the University of Calgary where he received a BSc. with concentrations in physics and computer science. Following the Fukushima nuclear accident his focus was to investigate the impacts caused by the accident. He attended graduate school at the Tokyo Institute of Technology where he received a MEng. in Environmental Engineering and a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering.
