
NSSPI Research Engineer, Claudio Gariazzo, was invited to lecture at the 11th European Safeguards Research and Development Association (ESARDA) Course on Nuclear Safeguards and Nonproliferation in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia. Held from February 25th to March 1st, the course was aimed for only ASEAN countries (with Australian observers). The course had 36 participants from around Southeast Asia and Australia and also included lecturers from the Joint Research Centre of Ispra, Italy, the Japanese Atomic Energy Authority’s Integrated Support Center for Nuclear Nonproliferation and Security, the IAEA, and the Université de Liege in Belgium. Mr. Gariazzo lectured on “Nuclear Material Subject to Safeguards” and “Containment/Surveillance and Monitoring Technologies for Safeguards” based on experience he gained at NSSPI. The course was hosted by the Malaysian Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB) and was organized by a group consisting of the ESARDA Working Group on Technical Knowledge Management, the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, and the Malaysian AELB.
