NSSPI works with government agencies, international organizations, universities, and nuclear institutions around the world to strengthen nuclear safeguards, security, nonproliferation, and responsible nuclear development. Through training, technical exchanges, academic partnerships, and professional networks, NSSPI connects Texas A&M expertise with the global nuclear community.

International Training and Capacity Building

NSSPI develops and delivers technical training and capacity-building programs for international students, professionals, faculty, and government personnel. Programs are conducted at Texas A&M and abroad in partnership with U.S. government agencies, the IAEA, and international organizations.

Training combines technical instruction with hands-on activities, laboratories, exercises, facility visits, and discussions with subject matter experts. Topics include nuclear safeguards and security, radiation detection, emergency response, knowledge management, and workforce development.

International Atomic Energy Agency

NSSPI holds observer status with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and supports the agency through education, training, and technical expertise.

NSSPI is a founding member of the International Nuclear Security Education Network (INSEN) and has contributed to curriculum and educational material development, professional development activities, and IAEA guidance. NSSPI has also participated in the IAEA’s International Network for Education and Training on Emergency Preparedness and Response (iNET-EPR).

Academic and Workforce Development

NSSPI works with universities and government partners to build sustainable nuclear education and workforce programs. Activities include curriculum development, faculty development, technical workshops, and support for institutions establishing or expanding programs in nuclear security, safeguards, and nonproliferation.

NSSPI also participates in the U.S. Department of State’s Foundational Infrastructure for Responsible Use of Small Modular Reactor Technology (FIRST) program, supporting partner countries as they develop the knowledge, workforce, and institutional capabilities needed for responsible nuclear energy programs.

International Technical Exchanges

International exchanges give students and professionals opportunities to see nuclear safeguards and nuclear operations in practice. NSSPI organizes and participates in study tours, facility visits, workshops, and technical exchanges that connect participants with nuclear facilities, laboratories, universities, government organizations, and international institutions.

These experiences provide firsthand exposure to different approaches to safeguards, nuclear operations, regulation, policy, and workforce development while building relationships across the international nuclear community.

Building Global Professional Networks

NSSPI creates opportunities for students and professionals to exchange ideas with peers and experts around the world.

A collaboration with the alumni network of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Education and Research Center (NEREC), founded by NSSPI Director Dr. Man-Sung Yim at KAIST, connects NEREC alumni with NSSPI students and the Texas A&M INMM Student Chapter through an international seminar series: The NSSPI/NEREC 2.0 Global Seminar Series. The series brings together experts from the nuclear policy community into conversations with the next generation of nuclear professionals and strengthens connections across an established global network.
