NSSPI Graduate Graduate Certificate in Nuclear Security Nuclear Engineering- M.S., 2019
Bio
Miles Chen earned his M.S. in nuclear engineering in August of 2019. He worked with Dr. Craig Marianno to perform a dose assessment of humans exposed to an environment where radioactive fluorine-18 (F-18) has been dispersed. The study analyzes the dose of personnel who mix and spray F-18 and a handler who surveys the contaminated area with a search & rescue dog. Modeling will be performed with MicroShield and results compared with actual dosimeter readings of a well-defined dispersion. Chen is a captain in the U.S. Air Force. He earned a B.S. in biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1996, a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of California at Irvine in 2008, and an M.D. from the University of Minnesota Medical School. Prior to joining NSSPI, he served as an installation radiation safety officer with the U.S. Air Force's Kunsan Air Base in South Korea.
