In response to the current COVID-19 situation, many employees across the nation are being asked to work from home. While this may be a disruption to their normal job functions, it can also be a tremendous opportunity to engage them in meaningful professional development activities.
The Center for Nuclear Security Science and Policy Initiatives (NSSPI), a joint Texas A&M University and Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES) Center, offers a suite of online training modules, known as the Nuclear Security and Safeguards Education Portal (NSSEP), that covers critical topics in nuclear security and safeguards. Over the past nearly eleven years, NSSPI faculty and staff have developed the self-paced online modules in NSSEP through sponsorship from the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and the U.S. Department of State’s Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) Program’s Partnership for Nuclear Threat Reduction. The modules provide training in topics of interest to those in the field of nuclear security and nonproliferation and have been used extensively in their training and human capital development programs. While the modules are free and available to the general public, we are now offering two professional certificate programs that will give individuals the opportunity to formalize their learning and earn official continuing education unit (CEU) credits. They will also have more direct contact with NSSPI faculty and staff and be asked to complete additional assessments to be certified.
These professional certificates require participants to complete a more rigorous assessment with hand grading of a final exam to ensure understanding of the materials covered. They also carry with them 3 CEUS per certificate. The price for these professional certificates is $300 per participant, and more information is available here.
The modules used in the professional certificate programs have been vetted by our sponsors and the professional certificates and CEUs are certified by the TEES Office of Professional and Continuing Education.
Inquiries about the NSSPI Professional Certificates or NSSEP should be addressed to Kelley Ragusa at [email protected]. We are also available for any discussion over Zoom online application, if notified in advance.
