Research and Education Collaborations with University of Tartu in Estonia

NSSPI NPI TAMU-NE

The energy sector of the 2009 Estonian National Development Plan foresees nuclear generated electricity by 2022 and for that they are taking the preparatory steps.  Among them is the development of qualified human resources and capacity building in which University of Tartu is taking the leading role.  Their Institute of Physics approached TAMU for collaboration and a proposal was drafted. During the IAEA General Conference NPI representatives met with the IAEA Director for Technical Cooperation for Europe and with the Estonia delegation to discuss the envisaged cooperation.

To start this cooperation Estonia submitted to the IAEA a request for a "Reserve Fund Project" under which they requested funding for 1) a National Training Course, 2) An assist mission to the University of TARTU, and 3) The exchange of experts and indicated TAMU/NPI/NSSPI as the international counterpart. If approved, implementation starts in April 2011.This would complement a national, multiyear research project the university will implement with government funding.
