IAEA Practical Arrangement with NPI

The NPI entered into a Practical Arrangement with the IAEA whereby the NPI and the IAEA agreed to combine their efforts and to cooperate in supporting regional nuclear power development programs in the IAEA's Member States by carrying out outreach activities on, and conducting training in nuclear-related subjects.

 

IAEA Observer Status for NSSPI

NSSPI works closely with the IAEA Department of Safeguards and the IAEA Office of Nuclear Security in the areas of human resource development and technology development. In addition, NSSPI has official status with the IAEA as an Observer for the IAEA General Conference.

As part of their further collaboration with the IAEA, NSSPI has developed safeguards educational training materials for the Agency.  These materials are currently used to educate and train safeguards experts throughout the world. NSSPI has also participated in developing materials for the International Nuclear Security Network (INSEN), and NSSPI Director, Dr. William Charlton reviewed and edited the IAEA technical publication, Introduction to Nuclear Security.

 

World Institute Nuclear Security (WINS)

NSSPI has participated in World Institute Nuclear Security (WINS) activities in the past involving review of best practices guidelines for integration of nuclear safety and security education. NSSPI and WINS share common interests in International Nuclear Security Education and future collaborations will include incorporation of WINS international best practices into formal academic materials through programs like GNEII.

 

International Nuclear Security Education Network (INSEN)

Starting in 2009, NSSPI has been part of the IAEA's International Nuclear Security Education Network (INSEN).  In 2011, NSSPI chaired Working Group 1 of the network.  NSSPI also prepared a chapter in a new INSEN textbook titled, "Transport Security."

A TAMU-NSSPI faculty member is currently charged by the Agency with developping teaching materials for Nuclear Security Series #11: Interdiction of and Response to Criminal or Unauthorized Acts Involving Nuclear and Other Radioactive Material for INSEN.
