Distance Education

NSSPI faculty are proud to offer distance education opportunities for students and professionals who wish to learn more about nuclear security, nonproliferation and safeguards. Classes can be viewed real-time or viewed later from a recording accessible through the Texas A&M University's distance education website.

This program is available to:

  • Active Texas A&M students and non-degree seeking students: college credit is given and can be applied to a degree at Texas A&M University or another university (if that university chooses to accept the courses)
  • Professionals seeking continuing education credit (CEUs): Texas A&M awards 1 CEU per 10 hours of instruction. Professional societies may also give their own credit for these courses.

 

Registering for the courses

Current Texas A&M students can register for the distance section (700) of the courses through Howdy.

Non-degree-seeking students must submit an application through ApplyTexas and first be accepted and admitted to the university.

Professionals seeking continuing education credits should contact NSSPI directly for more information.

 

Distance Course Offerings

Fall 2016

  • NUEN 650 (3 credit hours, 4 CEUs) -Nuclear Nonproliferation, 3 credit hours
  • NUEN 605 (3 credit hours, 2 -  4 CEUs) - Radiation Detection and Nuclear Materials Measurement, 
    • Requires students to spend 1 week at Texas A&M at the end of the semester to take the required laboratory exercises.
    • For continuing education students, the lab is not required, but encouraged.  If lab is taken 4 CEUs are awarded. If lab is not taken 2 CEUs are awarded.
  • NUEN 630 (3 credit hours, 4 CEUs) - Monte Carlo Transport 
    • Proof of an official MCNP license is required prior to being accepted in the class.

Spring 2017

  • NUEN 451 (3 credit hours, 4 CEUs) - Nuclear Security Systems Design
  • NUEN 651 (3 credit hours, 4 CEUs) - Fuel Cycle and Materials Safeguards
