NSSPI conducts state-of-the-art research and develops course material to aid in the struggle to combat nuclear proliferation and nuclear terrorism. In this role, we have a number of external sponsors who provide funding for NSSPI activities. Our current list of funding sources for FY08 are as follows:

• DOE/NA-20 Office of Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation. Development of various nonproliferation education and research activities.
• Domestic Nuclear Detection Office. A framework for developing novel detection systems focused on interdicting shielded HEU.
• DOE/NA-24 Office of Nonproliferation and International Security. Russian academic program in nuclear nonproliferation and international security.
• DOE/NE Office of Nuclear Energy, Science, and Technology. Real-time detection of actinide compositions in the UREX+ process.
• Los Alamos National Laboratory. Development of verification methods for spent fuel discharge. Proliferation pathways analysis. Development of post nuclear event attribution methods.
• Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Support for the DOE Sister Laboratory program.
• Sandia National Laboratory. Development and application of quantitative proliferation resistance methodologies for reprocessing scenarios.
• Defense Intelligence Agency. Nuclear detection with a bio-functional sensor platform.
• Department of Education. Development of joint US-Russia educational program on advanced energy technology.
