Prerequisites: Students taking this module should have completed the Basic Radiation Detection and Introduction to Statistics courses.

Learning Objectives: After completing this module, students should be able to describe the parties involved in nuclear material accountancy, determine how to setup an accountancy system for a facility, calculate any material unaccounted for and the corresponding uncertainty, name common measurement techniques and in what applications they should be used, and know the main difficulties of nuclear material accountancy.

Outline: This module consists of the following sections:

  1. Introduction
  2. Material Balance Areas (MBAs)
  3. Material Balance Period
  4. Nuclear Material Inventory
  5. Measurement System
  6. Material Unaccounted For (MUF)
  7. Nuclear Material Measurement Techniques and Equipment
  8. Calibrations and Sampling

Each section contains reading material, videos, and reference materials. The reading material includes a brief discussion of the subject matter, and the videos explore the subject in further detail. The student should complete the reading material and then watch the videos if they wish to have additional information and a more in-depth explanation of the subject matter
