Target Identification
Target identification is the process of determining what assets at a facility need to be protected to prevent undesirable events. The undesirable events for nuclear facilities, as indicated in the Introduction, are the theft of nuclear or radiological materials or the sabotage at a facility or of a transportation vehicle leading to the release of radioactive material.
There are typically two different categories of targets: theft targets and sabotage targets. It is important to determine what regulatory or policy requirements are in effect to define types and amounts of nuclear and radioactive materials that must be protected.
