Six students from TAMU joined students from the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology (MIT) and Pennsylvania State University
(PSU) to participate in a hands-on workshop on nuclear security and
safeguards at the Safeguards Laboratory at Oak Ridge National
Laboratory (ORNL) from October 15-19, 2012. Faculty members
Dr. Craig Marianno from NSSPI and Dr. Brenden Heidrich from PSU
also took part in the workshop, as did two students from the Tomsk
Polytechnic University in Russia who are currently interning at

NSSPI sponsored twelve undergraduate students to visit the
Safeguards Laboratory at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in
Oak Ridge, Tennessee May 17-21 for the Nuclear Material Safeguards
Nondestructive Assay Techniques education and practical training
course. Dr. Sunil Chirayath and Claudio Gariazzo of NSSPI organized
and escorted the students on the trip, and Dr. Alexander Solodov
helped conduct the training and visits at ORNL. The course is part
of the National Nuclear Security Administration's Next Generation
Safeguards Initiative Program at TAMU.

The Non-Destructive Assay (NDA) Applications for International
Safeguards Short Course at Oak Ridge National Lab was held November
16-20, 2009. Students from NUEN 605 (Radiation Detection and
Nuclear Materials Measurements) and NUEN 650 (Nuclear
Nonproliferation and Arms Control) learned about applied
nondestructive assay measurement techniques in nuclear material
safeguards, discussed nonproliferation issues with NSSPI and ORNL

Several TAMU nuclear engineering juniors visited Oak Ridge
National Laboratory's Safeguards Laboratory during the week of May
26-29, 2009 for Nuclear Material Safeguards Nondestructive Assay
