In July and August, NSSPI faculty and staff delivered three week-long training courses as part of an ongoing 16-week post-graduate certificate program in nuclear security science offered by the Centre for Nuclear Energy Studies (CNES) at the University of Port Harcourt in Nigeria.  The certificate program is being led by Prof. Lucky Uyigue and Prof. Ayoade Kuye of CNES.  Participants in the program include professionals from the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority and the Nigerian Police.

The three NSSPI training courses focused on: nuclear material control and accounting; nuclear material safeguards; and the human element of nuclear security (nuclear security culture and insider threat).  They were taught from Texas A&M University by Dr. Sunil Chirayath, Dr. Evans Kitcher, Mr. Claudio Gariazzo, and Dr. Craig Marianno through videos, online courses, NSSEP modules, and direct video interaction.  NSSPI's portion of the program was sponsored by the U.S. Department of State's Partnership for Nuclear Security.
