Biography of Dr. Paulo Barretto

Dr. Paulo Barretto is a former International
Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director for Technical Cooperation
programs for Europe, Latin America and West Asia who currently
serves as a consultant on international nuclear projects. He has
also served as a Geophysicist with the Brazilian Nuclear Energy
Commission, an Associate Professor of Geophysics at the University
of São Paulo, First officer in the Division of Nuclear Power and
Fuel Cycle with the IAEA, Consultant to the Brazilian National
Security Council, Head of the Latin American Section of the IEAE's
Department of Technical Cooperation, and Chief of the
Multidisciplinary Inspections in Iraq for the UN Monitoring,
Verification, and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC). Dr. Baretto
holds a B.Sc. in Geology/Geophysics from the University of São
Paulo, and he earned M.A. and Ph.D degrees in Nuclear Geophysics
from Rice University in Houston, Texas, in addition to a degree
from the Brazilian War College. He also trained at the C.E.A. in
France and at the U.S. Department of Energy.
